Duty to God Pilgrimage:
The purpose of the 2026 Duty To God Pilgrimage is to:
- Provide a larger than life experience for our Scouts/Scouters while working on religious medals/awards or activities
- Interact with Christian Scouts of Japan in sharing cultures
- Explore stories of God At Work In Our Lives that illustrate HIS presence in our lives
- Hear the stories of Saints, their struggles, the perseverance they had to continue despite setbacks and
- Realize that each of us are on our own individual Faith Journeys by having meaningful discussions with Christians of other faiths.
Scouts and Scouters of all Christian faiths are encouraged to participate in our Duty To God Pilgrimage. The program is hosted by the Philmont Training Center on July each year. The Training Center program includes a mid-week trip to the following sites:
*San Miguel Mission (oldest church in America) – You will see the 400 year old foundation. They’ll even let you ring the bell.
*Loretto Chapel and the “miraculous staircase”- The chapel was built without a staircase, their money had run out. Therefore, they prayed for help and a stranger shows up to complete it. He then leaves without being paid. But wait, that’s not the end of the story.
*Church at Chimayo – a spiritual oasis with a quaint adobe chapel. Pilgrims visit from around the world to visit.
* Bandolier National Monument Cliff Dwellings – discussion of the first Native American Saint. Thus, you will leave with a great illustration of Indian culture.
