Boy Scout
Neckerchiefs and Slides
Various Boy Scout
Neckerchiefs from across the
nation. Trading Eagles Offers a
large collection of Boy Scout
Neckerchiefs and Slides from Cub
Scout Neckerchiefs to Boy Scout
Special Event Neckerchiefs and
Slides. As a scout in the late
50's and early 60's I remember a
Scoutmaster's Minute that goes
something like this:
Scout
Neckerchief Minute
As a
Scout you have
discovered, our troop
neckerchief has other
uses besides looking
good. You found that it
can be used in first
aid. Through your
Scouting career, you'll
find that the
neckerchief has other
uses, too.
It is said that the
neckerchief is to remind
a Scout of the three
parts of the Scout Oath.
The
neckerchief is a
triangle, and its three
sides should remind a
Scout of the three parts
of the Scout Oath:
Duty to God and Country:
The longest side is to remind you of your long standing duty to God. This whole side is hidden from view, just as your faith is deep inside you. But without that faith, there is no strength for the rest.
Duty to Others,
One short side is to remind you of your duty to help others. Remember it is some of this duty that shows to others, just like part of this side of your neckerchief shows. So do your duty to others well so that people might see the good work you do in the name of Scouting.
and
Duty to Self,
The
last side is your duty
to your self, some of
which also shows to
others. They will know
by seeing your uniform,
that you are a young
man who is physically
fit, morally straight
and mentally awake.
While wrapping the neckerchief up for wear, wrap it tight in 12 small twists and repeat the 12 points of the Scout Law. Then as you placed your neckerchief around your neck for wear, the Three Parts of the Scout Oath and the 12 Points of The Scout Law are with you, in fact they are a part of you.
